(Prem Rawat) So, because of this COVID-19, this coronavirus, so many things have happened. So many people, unfortunately, have died, gone. So, this, of course, brings about a lot of changes. But the changes that happen are here! Because you think! You think about life. You think about existence! You think, “What does it mean to be facing this challenge?”
And so many people I know, their life has come to a stop. But let’s just take a look, (not zoomed-in but zoomed-out), take a look at the big picture of what is really happening. Do you think that one single wave of the ocean stopped because of this coronavirus? No. You think one cloud slowed down because of this coronavirus? No.
The sun rose like there is no coronavirus. And the moon shone like there’s nothing wrong. Birds, they go about their business. The ants, they go about their business. The trees, they go about their business. Flowers, they go about their business.
Of course, all this time, you are completely freaked out. You’re the only one out of business. “Oh my God, what’s going to happen? Oh, aie-aie-aie-aie-aie.” But nothing! It just goes on, moves forward. Can you take a look at that? Can that be something that can inspire you?
The sun has been rising every single day since you were born. (At least for you, since you were born. Before you, too, it was rising.) But for you, it was rising every morning – whether you looked at it or you didn’t look at it. The ocean did its thing; the rivers did their thing. So many lakes are filled with water because, one drop, one drop, one drop, one drop, one drop.
All these things, they’re going on; they’re not stopping. They’re doing their thing; they’re doing their magic; they’re doing their dance. The question, of course, is, “Are you part of that dance or not?”
By design? Of course you are part of that dance – and you should dance in that dance of your life. Even if you are secluded in a room, that does not mean you don’t have a desire to be happy. Of course you do. That doesn’t mean that you don’t have a desire to be content; of course you do. That doesn’t mean that you don’t have a desire to be in clarity; of course you do.
You see it has nothing to do with coronavirus; this is what you have always wanted – before coronavirus. And you will want this after coronavirus. And of course, you want this during coronavirus.
You are ... I hope – I really hope you get to discover that you are not this world. And what the world is bent over doing? “I want to socialize. I want to be with other people.” You cannot be with yourself; what good is it going to do to you, being with other people – when you can’t even be with yourself? What do you think socializing will satisfy? Nothing! Absolutely nothing!
Sometimes I hear a bird singing, chirping. This time when I went back and I was in quarantine, (for quite a few months, lockdown), around my house, all these birds would come and they would – they would sing a little song. I’m sure they were not singing for me. And I am sure that that wasn’t a song.
But they would sing. Cute little birds, colorful, just come sit down; they would sing. And I would wonder, “Wow. They’re singing away, happily doing what feels good to them: enjoying. Chirping, jumping, flying, darting along, ‘jhee-chee-chee-chee, chee-chee-chee.’”
Something in me also wants to express a gratitude, a song, a chirping, a dance, not for other people, but for me – when I can be in that clarity, when I can be in that place of contentment.
You have a propensity to want things your way. You want everything to be your way. Right? You want to always win an argument, don’t you?
Do you ever argue to lose an argument? You want to win that argument. You want to be always right! You know you are not going to win the ultimate argument.
The day Death comes to get you, there will be no argument. And guess who’s going to win every single time? Every single time for every single human being that ever has been on the face of this Earth, it was Death that won. They’re gone. You won’t be able to have it “your way.” No way will you be able to have it your way; it’s not a happening thing, so wake up!
Because you’re not going to win the argument, “A few hours more, please, few minutes more, or this, that, that.” This is why it is heaven. You can experience. You can be. It’s going to happen. Don’t be sad. You weren’t sad when you were born. Were you? Maybe you were. Maybe that’s why you were crying. It’s not about sadness. Whatever you were, you were no more when you were born. And like I said a while ago; I said, “If you’re not here, you’re somewhere else!” But did you learn to trust? Did you learn to accept? That’s the big question. If you trusted, if you accepted every day, you will accept.
You’re not ready for it; nobody wants to talk about it. It’s going to happen. How do you prepare?
By accepting today. Everybody wants to know, “When will it happen?” Nobody can pinpoint unless you’ve got a death sentence. Even then, they can’t pinpoint. Because sometimes they do it and nothing happens.
Learn to accept. It’s okay! If it wasn’t okay, then don’t learn to accept. But it’s okay to accept.
(Prem Rawat) There is a thirst in every human being. May not be scientifically proven, but it does not require any faith. See what I'm saying? It's like when something cannot be scientifically proven for it to exist, some faith is required but thirst is not one of those things.
Somebody comes to me and says, "I am thirsty. Can I have a glass of water? If I tell him, "Prove it." "I don't see 'thirst' written on your forehead. Prove it."
The only way he can prove it is when I give him the water and he goes, glug, glug, glug, glug.
"Oh! You were thirsty."
The thirst for clarity is innate. If you did not have that, do you realize? If you did not have that, you would self-destruct. You would self-destruct. If you did not have a powerful thing in you that moves you to exist, to live on, to go on, you would self-destruct.
If you did not have this want for clarity in your life, you would self-destruct. If you did not have a liking for wisdom, you would self-destruct. There'd be nothing left of you. But you do. That's why you need wisdom. That's why you need wisdom. That's why you need clarity so you can navigate these paths that are so difficult, that the world has made so, so difficult.
And more rules, and more rules, and more rules, and more rules. All this changes. What doesn't change, don't you realize, is you? You don't change. You're still a human being. You still have
those fundamental needs and wants in your life. Need to be happy, need to be clear. Need to be… thriving. Need to be in prosperity. True prosperity. This is your need. If you didn't have this need,
you would self-destruct. You would self-destruct.
Without that clarity, without that wisdom, without that understanding you no longer play the role of a human being on the face of this earth. This is what it means to be here. You see… You're part of such a magic. Of this incredible drama that is taking place. And that's why your existence on the face of this earth is so profound.
That...Oh! I mean, what can I say? What can I say? This is what's happening.
Prem Rawat: Let me tell you something. Okay? Now, don’t get carried away with this. It’s really simple. Try it, okay, just try it. If it works for you, great. It’s very simple. And it’s a challenge, and I am challenging you. Not you challenge me; I’m challenging you: “Try this. Try this, okay? Do only one thing at a time.”
You think you could do that? One thing at a time. So, when you’re asleep, and you start thinking, stop. Either think or sleep; don’t do both. Can you do one thing at a time? When you sit down for your practice, (hah-hah), practice! Don’t think; practice! Can you do that? It’s really simple; just do one thing at a time.
You know, and do two things at a time, that would be a challenge. Right? I mean, that’s like, “Wow, two things at a time!” No, just do one thing at a time. I’m simplifying. That’s my challenge: “Simplify. Just do one thing at a time.”
When you want to love your lover, shut up! Just love. Don’t talk; love. When your child or your grandchild wants to say something to you, listen; shut up; listen. And when you’re listening, don’t start thinking about what you’re going to say; just listen.
If you are a doctor, listen to your patient. Don’t diagnose them — not yet. Listen to your patient. If you are a father, listen to your son. If you are a husband, listen to your wife. In this world of “do one thing at a time,” you can do anything you want, but just do it one thing at a time.
When you sit down to eat? Eat! Don’t talk. Don’t try to have a conversation. Eat. You will enjoy your food a lot better. When the time comes to sleep, sleep; don’t think! You will enjoy your sleep a lot better. When you’re using the bathroom, use the bathroom!
So, I challenge you: “One thing at a time.” A Paris exclusive: “One thing at a time.” What can you expect? Just enjoying everything you do. Just enjoy. And when you enjoy, that is magnificent. To be in joy is magnificent. To be in peace is magnificent; to desire peace is magnificent. To seek clarity is magnificent. To have courage is magnificent.
Prem Rawat: What are the chances that the components of this dirt, (hydrogen, oxygen, carbon, calcium, phosphorus), all these coming together—and making you? What are the chances? Whoa. All this dust got brought together and you were created. You were made. And what are the chances that you came out, and you took your first breath, and you succeeded?
So, first, the chances that all that dirt came together and made you—and then you came out. And you just took your first breath and you succeeded: success. And you took your second one: success. And you took your third one: success. And success, and success, and success.
That is why this is your story. Because that breath comes in and out of you; that’s why it’s your story, your worth, your self, you knowing you. You having an understanding about your existence. Not about anybody else’s.
Nowhere, nowhere in a single scripture anywhere does it say, “You need to understand other people.” Not one! It’s always, “You—need to know you! Know thyself,” not, “Know all the people on Facebook, on Twitter, all the, TikTok, on PikPok,” and whatever else they have.
This need to impress other people has always been there! But it has also been the downfall of human beings! They fight wars because of that! They would exhibit their powers in front of other people! (Ah, and Colosseum, for instance?) Because it is all about “What other people think of you.” What’s important is “What do you think of your self?”
What do other people think of you? Nothing! Why? Because they’ve got their own thinking to do, just thinking of what you think of them. They’re busy! They’re busy thinking of what you think of them. So, everybody is doing the same thing.
Everybody, wise people, and really wise people—nah! Dumb people. Nah! Everybody goes in the grinder; it’s like a big blender going “Umm-blrrrrr,” like a cement mixer. In slow motion, and you’d just pump—and it de-separates you back into all the six little elements that you were when you started. It’s gone.
Never to be put back together again? Not like that, like the way you are. Maybe an eggplant, maybe a tomato, maybe a cucumber. Who knows? But not the way you are.
The core part of why I am here today, and why I’m going to be going to Europe, it really is to remind you, “What you have inside of you is priceless. Let that manifest in your life.” This is your chance; this is your opportunity. Be with that, with that beauty, with that joy that is inside of you.
You see, my friends, you will never, ever live in tomorrow—ever! Never. And if you don’t believe me, stay up all night; watch your clock. And tonight at twenty-three fifty-nine, fifty-nine, when tomorrow will be precisely one second away, one second later it will have moved. What you thought was tomorrow would have become today.
Do you know you have been living in a very long “today?” Do you know that? It’s just been today! Every day that you are alive in—is today, today, today, and today. And then one day, no more day. But it’s today.
So, here is the problem. Is there a problem in thinking about tomorrow? No, of course not. What’s the problem, then? Well, the problem is, tomorrow has become the source of your hope—not today. So the problem is, the hope is coming tomorrow—and you’re stuck in today!
So it’s like, you keep asking for more gold, and it keeps coming in your neighbor’s house. You see the problem? You want it in your house, and your neighbor keeps getting richer. You asked for a great looking wife, and he has one. And you asked for a faithful dog—yours isn’t, but his is!
Hope should be coming from today! Do you know how to bring hope from today? It shouldn’t be licensed to tomorrow. It should be today.
Hope brings you joy! But if your hope is tied to tomorrow, which is not coming, so neither is your joy. Yeah, I’m just being logical. It’s a problem. It’s a real problem.
And this moment that you live in…. And it’s the same thing. You only live in one little sliver of all this time that we talk about, and it’s called “now.” And you’re stuck in now. You can’t go back, and you can’t go forward. You’re stuck in now. And do you have any idea what “now” is?
So, here are the problems. So, you see the problem? You have no idea where you are. You have no idea who you are; you have no idea where you are; you have no idea why you’re here.
And you have a map. You have a map. And the problem with the map is, you have no idea where you are on the map.
So when Socrates says, “Know thyself,” he may as well say, “You’d better know where you are on that map.” Because as soon as you know where you are on the map, you can choose to go anywhere on that map. But if you don’t know where you are on that map, how will you go anywhere? And here is the belief problem.
So, should you just believe, “I’m here”? It’s problematic. Navigation-wise, it’s a big problem.
So, this is the business of “present position.” This is the business of knowing where you are on that map. Who are you?
And if you want to traverse this ocean of life, please, this is supposed to be an enjoyable journey…not you drowning in it! This is supposed to be existence, the epitome of joy, the epitome of parties, the epitome of all that is possible—life. Life.
