So, in being alive what is it that makes you alive? We touched a little bit on this subject and we have in the past too. It is survival versus thriving. So are you thriving? Are you seeing the value of each day for your self? Not somebody telling you, but for yourself?
Today, is the day when I'm going to practice... Practice, clarity. Clarity. Today, I'm going to practice patience. Today, I am going to practice keeping the doubts away. Practice. I didn't say, "You must." If I did, that would be an incredible challenge for you. But I didn't say - you must. All I said was: Practice. Try. Little more. Just like pushing a car that's stuck in mud.
"Umnh, umnh, umnh, umnh...
A little harder, a little harder, a little harder. And then if there's three to four people, all together now, "Umnh" Just try to get over the obstacles in our life. Ignorance is an obstacle. And we need to learn how to go around that obstacle. Which is the worst kind of ignorance?
The worst kind of ignorance is not knowing yourself. Not knowing your self. Not understanding who you are, what you are about. Yes of course it includes knowing your vulnerability that one day you have to go. And your being created to that point, you evolving this is what nature deemed the best.
That is just how it is. Neither good, nor bad. It is just how it is. You have a quest inside of you to be fulfilled. And unless you are, you will feel empty. Neither good, nor bad. Just how it is. You can acquire as much as you want You can gather as much as you want but unless that space inside of you is fulfilled, you will feel empty. And that's an emptiness that nothing else can fulfill.
Except, you knowing you.
Many people in their lives, they see things not going their way; they start losing hope, and the next thing you know, calamity. But it takes courage to have hope; it takes courage to have clarity. And when there is that courage....
This is what’s beautiful. If you get angry, you know what you will be rewarded by? Anger. Just think about it, right? You get angry; you’ll be rewarded by anger. What is the reward of anger? Either you will get more angry.... Maybe, maybe you begin by being angry with your friend, and the next thing you know, you’re also angry with yourself—for being angry at your friend.
Anger rewards anger; anger begets anger. Fear rewards fear. You get afraid of being afraid—and that’s when it really sets in. It’s more than the boogeyman in the closet. Now, you’re afraid to be in the room; you’re afraid to be alive. “Oh my God....”
But...but what is the reward of hope? It brings you more hope. What is the reward of joy? It brings you more joy. What is the reward of happiness? It brings you more happiness. What is the reward of knowledge? It brings you more knowledge. What is the reward of being content? It brings you more contentment. What is the reward of knowing? It brings you more knowing.
This is how it is. This is how it’s always been.
– Prem Rawat
Now you tell me, how should your life be? Should we really be talking about contentment? Should we really be talking about clarity? Should we really be talking about being happy? Well, maybe not. Maybe we should be talking about more serious things.
But then, who is going to convince your heart – your heart – that you can live without clarity, that you can live without simplicity, that you can live in this paradox? Who? Who?! Who?! Who will convince?
This is that time! There’s nothing practical anymore. It’s like, “No, let’s be realistic!” “Well, realistic, what?! What realism are you talking about?” But all this “reality” that people talk about, “Oh, be realistic! We have obligations in this world” – sure, go right ahead. What obligations? What obligations?
And I was thinking about this. And I know a lot of people, and I love them. And then there will be a time when I have to go; I have to move on. And when I do, that’s it. I will never meet those people again, ever. Never, ever. (Never ever, ever? Never, ever?) Ever.
I want you to think about that. If you have family, I want you to think about that. Because this is your time to look them in the eyes. And let them know how much you love them.
It’s so final. So incredibly final. Those who you love need to know that you, you love them. To understand that! You see the importance?
No, but what do you harbor? Anger. You harbor fear. You harbor all those things that’ll do you no good. And you do not allow the love, the kindness, the caring to truly surface. That’s how it has to be.
Look, there is that which is important, and then there is all that that is not important. And what is not important, let it go; shake it off; let it roll off the shoulders. Don’t invite it to yourself. Just say, ‘Go away.’ And what’s important, bring it.
Prem Rawat:
So many people before you – so many people before you considered it more important to be in touch with yourself, rather than with everybody else. This technology has changed your emphasis; you want to be in touch with everybody else; you don’t even know yourself. Now you’ve got a problem.
We are seeing; we are witnessing death of a human being – as human beings. That’s what makes this message more important than ever before: “Be in touch with yourself.” When you lose touch with yourself, panic. No, when you lose touch with other people, you start panicking. Don’t. When you lose, reverse it. What’s important? You are important.
There was never on the face of this Earth anyone like you. And never again on the face of this Earth will there ever be anyone like you. Never. Ever. Do you believe that? How many do? See, you doubt – some of you doubt what you shouldn’t doubt.
No, it’s really true. Will there be more? Yes! You probably will help procreate and produce them. Will they have sort of similar traits; probably. But nobody again will be like you. What does that mean? It means that that should mean something to you. “Man! I’ve got an important mission. I’ve got to make sure – I’ve got to absolutely make sure that Prem Rawat is fulfilled.”
You’ve got to make sure you are fulfilled. That should be your mission. You see the value of this message? As simple as it is, it is so profound. Because it’s the only one that says, “Be in touch with yourself. You matter.”
In this world of almost 8 billion people, do you matter? Yeah. And now it’s really going to take off. And before you know, it’s going to be billions more. But do you matter? Yeah. Do you matter? Yes. Should you have recognized the divine in you? Yes. Yes. Understand? Yes.
Not think. Not try to conjure up. Not try to believe what other people have to say, but experience for yourself.
Prem Rawat:
The objective here is to thrive – not to survive, but to thrive – to enjoy every single day. It truly is a gift. And how precious it is? Krishna says that “Whatever you think about the most in your life, you’re bound to remember that in your last moment.”
So, before I add any more to that, what is it you think about the most? Is it gratitude? Because if it is, then that’s what you’re going to remember. Or is it solutions to your problems? Because you can’t think about the solutions without thinking about the problem, right? So, you think about the problems and there they’re going to be.
And most of your problems exist because you’re alive. If you’re not alive, you don’t have those problems. Somehow, that which you set out to do that you wanted to do, you were not succeeding in it. That’s the problem, and that has always been.
You are still born. And you yearn to feel fulfilled. And you should face this – because there is something you can do about that. It’s not like that is an impossible dream. You can do something about that.
And all of these things that we’ve been talking about this morning, yesterday, these are all – they seem to be very clear indications that there is no clarity as to the aim of why you are here. This will affect you this way; this will affect you this way; this will have a this; this will have … Why are you here?
What is the purpose? What is the aim? What is possible? Why did you come to Knowledge in the first place? What attracted you to this? What was said that you went “Yeah”?
Let that which is beneficial to you sink in. What is not, throw it away. Now, mind you, it’s easier to say that than to do that. Okay? It’s much, much easier to say that than do that. But try. Just try! Little by little by little, you’ll get good at it. That’s all it takes: conscious effort. Conscious effort.
There are two parts to you. There are two parts to you. And this composition is what makes you human. And one is the infinite. And one is the finite.
Right now, you have very little understanding about the infinite, extremely little. I mean, pathetic. And you have a tremendous amount of information on the finite. You know, (poof!) about your pots, your pans, your spoons, your rug, your house, your brick, your this, this – everything that is finite, more or less, you know about.
And you’re fascinated. You’re fascinated by the finite. (Well, I know I am.) Say, I’m walking by a shop and I see televisions on the showroom; it’s like, “Whoa, like, where’s the latest and the greatest?” And of course, you know, we get that; we see a new thing that has been invented and we’re like, “Wow, that’s really cool. That’s going to have a profound impact.”
I mean, it wasn’t that long ago, you couldn’t put those phones, (the cell phones that they had), you couldn’t put them in your pocket. And today you can watch movies! You can see another person. You can have conference calls. Amazing, but (hah-hah-hah!). But, it’s all information that you have about the finite.
That phone of yours is finite; I’m really sorry to tell you this, but your phone is finite. And if the manufacturers of the phone have anything to do with manufacturing and designing those phones, they have made sure that they are finite. Obsolescence is built right into them, so they will become obsolete.
And obsolescence, (oh boy), is built into you too. You will become obsolete. You will! It’s by design! So! Now, let’s talk about this other thing – that is also a part of you, but you have no knowledge of such. And it is called “the infinite.”
Knowing that infinite is in you brings you hope. It is bigger – that infinite is bigger than the sum of your problems at any given time. That infinite, to it, all the problems of this world, (your problems inclusive), have no significance; they don’t mean anything to it.
This coronavirus means nothing to the infinite. Absolutely nothing. All these human beings on the face of this earth freaking out: “Ab-ab, aie-aie-aie, what’s going to happen; what’s going to happen” means nothing!
You must understand the one fundamental rule: to the infinite, you mean nothing. To you, the infinite means everything. To the finite, you mean nothing! And to you, it means a lot. (Perspective.) This is what being a human is all about. You would gladly sit down and say, “Oh my God, this is so wonderful; the infinite really cares about me” – no. The timeless?
You are bound by time. Nothing happens to you, you cannot do anything that is not in time. Do you think the timeless works that way? So then, why is it called “timeless”? Why is it called “infinite”? You going from here to there means whatever it means to you – but to the infinite, it means nothing.
But to you, to you, that infinite means everything. To you, that infinite means everything. And knowing yourself is a part of that equation – that to me, knowing that timeless, knowing that infinite means everything, and I’ve got to pay attention in my life.
